Easy 8 Breakfast Series #2 - Jen Rubio, Dalia Oberlander, Hildy Kuryk Bernstein & Kerry Pieri

Part 2 of our #woMNonthego events. For this drop in breakfast, 4 of our favorite industry leaders and innovators to styled a unique look with pieces from my Easy 8 collection.

The Easy 8 is designed with women on the go in mind, 8 pieces that make up 22 looks. This means you're prepared day to night, for any calendar appointment, with no outfit changes necessary.

In addition to styling an outfit, I asked my guests a few questions about who inspires them, their favorite Easy 8 piece and what being on the go means to them.

Jen Rubio, Co-Founder AWAY Luggage

Most Inspiring Woman? Why?

I’m so inspired by Shonda Rhimes: she’s overcome so many barriers over the course of her career, and I love that she uses her platform to encourage other women to do the same. On a daily basis, I’m also inspired by so many great women in my life, like my co-founder Steph who keeps me grounded.

What do you look for from your wardrobe?

My schedule can be unpredictable and no two days are ever the same, so I aim to mix my love for fashion while also keeping it versatile and easy. It’s not uncommon for me to head straight from the airport to a meeting or speaking engagement, and then right to dinner with friends, so I’ve built my wardrobe with staples that can function in any one of those situations.

Favorite Easy 8 piece?

I’m obsessed with the Florence Blazer Dress! I love that it’s versatile and makes any look feel polished and put-together. I can wear it over a plain tee with classic denim and boots, over a skirt, or by itself as a mini dress with heels for a look that’s a little more edgy.

What does a modern ‘woman on the go’ look like to you?

To me, a modern “woman on the go” is confident no matter what she looks like. She doesn’t feel obligated to fit any certain mold or to please anyone—just herself. That’s different for every woman, and I love that there’s no one clear definition of how women should look today. Society has challenged that outdated concept, and I’m so on board.

What is one thing you’re learning now, either personally or professionally, or both?

I’ve been taking piano and ukulele lessons recently! I like to remind myself that you’re never too old to learn new things. I’ve continued to learn how important it is to take time for myself and to be with the people I love. I’m really passionate about my work and love that I get to spend so much time working on things that fuel me creatively, but it’s important that I carve out ways to take a step back and make sure I’m still doing things I love outside of work, whether it’s traveling with friends, practicing an old hobby, or learning something new and exciting. Those are the things that will help me keep things in perspective and be able to truly appreciate the ride.

Dalia Oberlander, Founder of Latest Revival

Most Inspiring Woman? Why?

Elizabeth I, Queen Elizabeth I was a visionary heroine who defied every limitation placed on a woman in the 1500s. She changed the course of history by changing the role of women. I find inspiration in her genuine strength of character, resolve, integrity and resilience. She was inimitable.

What do you look for from your wardrobe?

As you can imagine, I have a deep and abiding fascination with jewelry and fashion. I enjoy learning the stories behind a piece and creating connections with everything I wear. Every season allows me to mix heritage antiques from Latest Revival (www.LatestRevival.com) with modern, innovative pieces to keep things visually interesting and current. Having seen the upcoming collections, I’m drawn to the vibrant energy of contemporary tempered by the timeless beauty of vintage.

Favorite Easy 8 piece?

I absolutely love Misha Nonoo’s Elena dress - timeless, beautiful, versatile and the perfect silhouette. I envision pairing it with a structured tuxedo blazer for evenings out and a white collared button down when running around to showroom appointments and meetings.

What does a modern ‘woman on the go’ look like to you?

A modern woman who cannot be easily defined! She needs to look a thousand different ways depending on where she is ‘going’ and what she is doing when she gets there.

What is one thing you’re learning now, either personally or professionally, or both?

I’m currently learning about the complexities and opportunities in attempting to bridge the gaps in our educational system, as a Trustee (and Chair of Educational Development) of a Charter School that provides positive, progressive and transformative options for scholars. I’m all about efforts to create REAL change for all children in order to prepare them for future success and create responsible members of the global community.

Hildy Kuryk-Bernstein, Artemis Strategies Consultancy

Most Inspiring Woman? Why?

My mom is the woman who most inspires me for too many reasons to list here - but mainly because she showed me that while it isn’t possible to have it all (it never is) it is possible to be happy doing what you love and being there for your family. My mom was a very successful advertising executive and worked throughout my whole childhood but was always there for me at every stage of my life. She is the smartest, most well-read and well-traveled person I know and now after being retired she started a fourth career as a brand strategist and naming specialist - she named Artemis!

What do you look for from your wardrobe?

Now that I have my own business I am constantly on the go seeing clients. I look for easy, classic pieces that aren’t fussy and can withstand rush hour on the train!

Favourite Easy 8 piece?

That's easy - the husband shirt - the classic for the win. Smart, chic, fun - you name it and a great white shirt does it.

What does a modern ‘woman on the go’ look like to you?

SIt looks like someone trying to balance all the demands on her time and brain space. One minute you are making a game changing business pitch and the next you are booking your kids YMCA classes for the fall. All are equally important - technology makes it possible to do it all on the go - but at the same time it is harder than ever to turn off and really relax.

What is one thing you’re learning now, either personally or professionally, or both?

To forgive myself - as a small business owner I have a new exercise I am practicing: if you are dealing with a particular issue, say the worst possible outcome out loud - accept it and move forward from there. By saying it out loud, I set it free and if I can accept the worst then whatever it is will work itself out.

Kerry Pieri, Digital Fashion/ Features Editor Harper's Bazaar US

Most Inspiring Woman? Why?

My mom. Becoming a mother has made me realize how completely effortless she always made it look and how important it is to make your children know they are unconditionally loved, always.

What do you look for from your wardrobe?

Something that feels great, looks cool, fits well and won’t feel “over” in three months’ time.

Favourite Easy 8 piece?

The black trousers that have just a little cool-girl slouch and make you look taller than you are with a good pair of heels.

What does a modern ‘woman on the go’ look like to you?

I don’t think there’s just one way to look, it’s more about how what a woman wears reflects in how she carries herself. When she feels cool and elegant, she looks cool and elegant.

What is one thing you’re learning now, either personally or professionally, or both?

I’m learning that I didn’t even know what balance meant before taking on this new role, and that we have to be easy on ourselves, even while also giving 100% every day.
